Dental question for a friend...

I find it bizarre.Anyway,a friend of mine in early 30's is complaining of pain and says it's due to wisdom teeth coming through.I said something along the lines of 'wow, that's late' and she's said she already has 4...

Now I find this odd, she's had the 4 wisdom teeth for years but is in a lot of pain now and her husband has said her gum appears to be splitting behind one of them and they assume it's another wisdom tooth.

Is it just me that thinks it's something that may need checking? She's adament it's another tooth, seems so bizarre

Tell her to see her dentist.
With wisdom teeth we have 32 teeth but I have known people with more teeth behind wisdom teeth. More often they are mistaken and wisdom teeth are not already through. However no one can see your friend so they need to see their dentist.

The oldest patient I saw with a new wisdom tooth coming through was 84!

Had to be sent in to have it out, as it was mucking up the fit of her lower denture.

She was imagining this white lump was all sorts of horrific things. She was quite chuffed (and very relieved) when I told her she had the dental problems of an 18 yr old!

If she knows it to be wisdom teeth, then that's probably OK. If she's guessing it's wisdom teeth, then she really should just get it checked.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I had six wisdom teeth. Don't know if that gives me extra wisdom though, it should give me something considering the agony they all caused over about 5 years!

Your friend should see her dentist and have it checked out though.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.
