All I can say is why did the person who employs me not tell me this? I used to work for various surgeries but ended up working regular days for this one, I have an accountant cannot understand why he has not mentioned this either?

Firstly, it can be advantageous to them on the basis they can get rid of you simply by giving notice as per your contract without the hassle of having to fire you or make you redundant etc.

Secondly it may be cheaper for them given you have no employee benefits, no sick pay, no holiday pay, they dont have to pay employers NI etc however this is certainly not always the case as your higher rate of pay may (aka should) be such that this isnt true or at least not significantly so.

As to the accountant, what basis are you employing him? (a good proxy of the answer is how much are you paying them?). Many accountants effectively offer a glorified book keeping/ form filling service for SE or vSME businesses but in exchange the annual bills are sub £1500 and you get a once a year professional service of them mitigating your tax on your return(s). If you are wanting a fully advised service where they proactively are assisting the whole year round you are typically going to be looking at much higher bills than that.
