Hi All,

I wasn't 100% certain whether to post in the credit card section or here but decided on this one. I'm inthe process of paying off debts and have just paid off a second account in mydebt snowball (payment transferred about an hour ago )
I'm nowstarting to approach the higher balanced Cards with high interest rates (notcertain of actual rate but have a good idea) details below.

Debt Balance Interest Limit
My Car £0.00 N/A 0
Wife's lloyds CC £0.00 0 0
Wife's Car £1,952.00 0 N/A
M&S CC £2,771.24 25% approx £ 11,000.00
Virgin CC £7,962.78 24%approx £ 8,650.00
halifax CC £5,002.29 5.7% life of bal £ 5,450.00

IdeallyI'd like to transfer the virgin balance to the M&S card but in the last 8months or so I've called for BT's and they have said there are none available. In the past I've managed 6 months 0% and then got a better 9-12 months back tovirgin.
Right nowI'm not sure what to do but I will give M&S another try. Halifax didrecently write to me to say they were happy with the way I was running myaccount and were upping limit to £6350 in the next 2 months. This has nothappened yet and will be another option soon I suppose.

I amhowever considering applying for another card to transfer the virgin balanceover to but I have reservations as I’m not sure a) If I’d get it b) if they wouldcover the whole balance c) whether it’s worth the credit check.

I haven’tapplied for anything in a few years. I have checked my credit rating at Equifaxand it is coming out as Good, score was 468. Accidental banking error meant a latepayment in April last year on one account and a couple in previous years butone of those accounts is now closed. I know the ratings have to be taken with a pinch ofsalt.
I wasjust wondering what other peoples experiences were with getting BT’s? Is an 8K BTpossible or should I just hold out?

Anyadvice gratefully appreciated.

I'm a newbie to this DFW section so I'm not sure whether my advice is the best, but I found myself in a similar situation a few months ago and managed to transfer about 12k of high interest CC debts to a nationwide loan at 6.3% for 5 years and another 5k onto 0% BTs for 12 months.
Not sure if that helps you, but it's worth investigating.

  • Thanks CatherineS,

I've just called M&S and got the same again. I asked why BT's were not available, Is it something I need to alter, and was told no it's purely down to offers. She's put a note on my account to say I'm after a BT though, will see what comes of that.

Halifax however have now upped the limit for me and done a 0% balance transfer of £1030 for 9 months. A step in the right direction.

I think I'll go for an application will try Barclaycard and hope that me banking with them will help.
