Just to put another option forward (which was briefly mentioned earlier) try the Estate Agents.
Countrywide and Connells will hire pretty much anyone literate these days, and I think it would look very good in the interview if you were to say you wanted to progress up through the ranks.
This would give you a good grounding in knowing what you need to know about house sales and booking mortgage appointments. Then when they know you, just ask the FS manager if you can look at transfering to the mortgage side. They will get you qualified and up to competent status within a couple of years.
Once you leave there, qualified, then your career actually starts!I am a Mortgage Adviser

Thanks everyone for the advice, sorry it took so long to say thanks, I've been applying for jobs and I've managed to get a sales exec job at Swinton insurance which is going well and I'm looking to get a bit of money from that then I'm going to do my CeMAP when the markets pick up again. Once again, many thanks for the advice0

Well done, jobs are hard enough to get at your age (sorry if that comes across a little condescending).
One which links in with what you want to do is great. As a mortgage advisor you will find yourself selling GI (General insurance) so it will give you a bit of grounding and understanding of some the products you will be selling to your own clients.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Michael, well done on your enthusiasm and hard work. If you put this much effort into your job then you will do very well at the company.
Without sounding patronising, if you take one piece of advice, you will encounter many people in your industry, that hate their job, hate the company etc. Ignore the negative attitudes and focus on doing your job to the best of your ability. Hard work is recognised and you will be rewarded in the future, good luck.
P.S out of my circle of friends including solicitors, planners, even doctors, the person earning the most left school with no qualifications, then started work in an inusrance call centre in Cardiff, now has worked his way to the top (ish) and has about £500k of share options given to him over the last 17 years!
Makes you think!0
