Buffet prices

Hi All

We went to look at a 4 star, 2 rosette hotel on Saturday as a venue for our evening reception. We were very impressed with the hotel and it ticked every single box but are short of things to compare it to regarding prices.

For an 8 item cold buffet (sandwiches/sausage rolls/prawn toast etc) we were quoted £17.25 per person and does not include any kind of dessert. Is that reasonable please?

Many Thanks

  • That sound good, my hotel (star rating not given - don't think it was great) charged £11.95 for 9 items, but went up to £19.50 for 13 if you wanted salmon or fancier items.

I picked my hotel on the price so I haven't seen much cheaper!!

You have room to haggle but it sounds reasonable. My sister in law is paying a lot more.

  • Sounds pretty reasonable to me. The place where we are having our reception charges more than that but it doesn't affect us as we are having a hog roast. Yum!

It sounds about right to me too. We were quoted £16 per head (4 star hotel) for a 5 choice buffet with a minimum of 90 people. We managed to persuade them to offer us hotpot at £12 per head, which might not sound much of a saving but it is when mutliplied by 90!

I guess you need t ask yourself if you are happy paying that and whether you are happy with the food, service, hotel and feel of the place. To me you can't put a price on this!

Wow there is a real variation in prices. I'm not sure what to do now. :( They offered us a 5 piece selection for £12.95 a head but my other half and I didn't feel like this was enough for an evening buffet.

    Thank you for the responses.

What kind of sandwiches etc are they offering? Ie - is it a nice buffet or just a basic one? I would not pay those prices for a basic one.

I do also think a 5 selection one is enough - don't pay a fortune to feed drunk people...

    Ok...

    The choices are

    Tomato & Mozzerarella parcels
    Thai Veg Spring Rolls
    Sesame Prawn Toast
    Indian Onion Bhajis
    Bacon & Leek Quiche
    Asparagus & Cheddar Cheese Quiche
Brie & Sun Blushed Tomato Quiche
    Sausage Rolls
    Tempura Coated Veg
    Chilli Beef in Batter
    Chicken Satay
    Mini Cornish Pasty
    Battered Cod goujons
    Red Thai Chicken Skewers
    Sandwiches (Ham & Mustard/Tuna & Cucumber/Cheese & Pickle/Egg Mayo & Cress/Coronation Chicken & Salad/Prawns & Marie Rose Sauce)

    Sandwiches count as 1 item.

I got my knickers in a twist over the 5 item price, that is £14.50. 8 items is £17.95. The food choice looks reasonably good.

It says across the bottom of the menu that prices are correct at time of publication and subject to change without notice. Is it tight of me to want to request a definite price as if they suddenly decide to increase prices this could screw us up big time.

    Thanks again
