Sage 50

Hi all

I apologise if this is not in the right place on this forum I just didn't really know where to put it.

I am wanting to learn how to use Sage software. A lot of jobs that I have com across have been perfect for me other than the "Knowledge of Sage is expected". I wish to change this so that I can still have a bash at those jobs and have a hope of getting 1. Where do I start? I've asked around all the colleges and adult education centres and no one does training on it. I was thinking of self teaching but I don't know if there would be enough tutorials out there and if there is where I would get the software from as it is very expensive and a rather big outlay just to practice on.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Cheers, Babymoo x

google sage course and it will come up with 100s for you. Pitmans do it, loads of distance (on-line) course providers do it, Sage themselves do courses. It's one of the most common accounting softwares around so there's loads of training if you look beyond your local college.

You are already a bookkeeper though? I wouldn't recommend it otherwise, doing a Sage course just teaches you how to use a tool to do the bookkeeping, it won't teach you to be a bookkeeper, if you see the difference.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.
  • I know they run courses at my local college (Warwickshire) but looks like you've had no luck with this option - although college courses often change so if you're in no hurry could be worth checking again every few months.

Also, just as an aside - the job I'm in (started in December) listed as one of it's requirements knowledge of Sage 50, and I got the job even though they knew I hadn't used sage before, so you never know! (And it's not too hard to pick up either which is convenient!)
  • This is a good starting point: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sage-Accounts-Dummies-Updated-2011/dp/0470715588 so you can learn your way around the software - then you can take a course like above to get practical experience

I went on Ebay and bought a learn Sage line 50 CD last year. It cost under a tenner and I worked through the clear examples at home in my own time. The disc was called "Sage Line 50 Interactive Training CD Covers Basic and Advanced". Go on Ebay and just type Sage Line 50 and press search. I have just checked on Ebay and the same disc is £8.75 on buy now. Good luck.

I went to my local college and attended evening classes for Sage Line 50 and Payroll, it was free as well. Good Luck, quite an easy system to use and Sage provide good support.

There is a Groupon voucher for £59 (expires in 2 days - today is June 25th, 2012) for stage 1 and 2 along with further advanced sessions. It seems like a really good deal - I haven't taken the plunge yet but am seriously considering it.

Is the Groupon course worth doing (I have heard mixed reviews about Lean Direct) I used to do bookkeeping (double entry) but then had no need to use it but quite a lot of jobs seems to ask for Sage these days so I am tempted.
