Digital Camera

Hi
im looking to buy a new camera i have at the moment a canon slr camera its quiet new but i think a digital one would be a little easier seenas i use it for motorsport and cant alway get a good picture. There were a few cameras in some of the bigger shop e.g currys, argos but i was just wondering if any one had some suggestions. And can you get away with hagaling in shops like that.
Thanks in advance.

  • If going for digital for motor sport you'll need an slr digital for speed of shot taking - many digitals have a lot of shutter lag! Have a look here for some ideas:

I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!
  • i was looking at the fuji s6500fd wich seemed to have a quick shutter speed if set up right. It seems the slr digital cameras are a lot more than the non slr digital cameras and then going for one of the cheaper slr ones you lose some of the quilaty

    hey,

the budget digital SLR ones really are good. dont be fooled by megapixels - its marketing speak. SLR's have bigger sensors so the pixels fit better. the long and short is that yuou will get a better picture out of a 6mp DSLR that a 6mp compact. If your doing motorsport then DSLR will be best especially considering shutter lag and a high frames per second continuous shoot rate.

as for budget cameras look at reviews for canon E350 / E400, nikon D40/ D50/ D70 pentax K100, Oly E500 (which I have) samsung GX-1L etc.

dont be fooled by the £250 10mp digital compact. think about it can it really offer better features and prints that a £500 camera 3 times the size??

  • thanks il take a look at some of those cameras
  • If you already have a film canon SLR then presumably you have at least some canon EF lenses, so that pretty much makes the brand choice for you.

Budget and what you want to do with the pictures determine which model you get. The 400d or 350d are both nice entry level dSLRs, or you can go right up to the 1Ds mkII if money is no object.

My advice is go into Jessops or similar, ask them to get out a range of cameras in your price range and have a play with them. Most people find the 350/400d a bit small, so if you have big hands or are used to a bigger body they may not be for you. Not sure about haggling unfortunately.

Alternatively if you hold off for a while a new 1d mkIII is being announced in march, which should drive the used price of the mkII down some, and you could pick up a nice version of that.

here is quite a good resource which has reviews on most of the cameras.
