mortgage advice for someone who knows nothing!

My partner and I would like to buy a house sometime in the near future.

we should have a good deposit of at least 5%

I've been working part-time for the same company for 5 years and my partner who earns more as he is full-time started a new job on the 12th feb.

what do we need to take into account when purchaseing a home.

I have done a calculation and we can get exactly what we need for the house we want in the area we want.

what are the fees?
how long do you have to be working for?
who are the best lenders with the best rates?
what kind of mortgage to go for?

ect ect you see where i'm coming from .

Thanks in advance
