Fairly Urgent - Quick Question regarding Council Tax

Hi,

I need to find somewhere to live like... Within the next week. I'm trying to weigh up all my options. Normally, I would just wait until tomorrow and call the council, but I don't really have the time to wait.

I'm looking at renting a property in Hastings, East Sussex - the property is a small studio flat and is in the council tax band A.

How much would this be for me per year, and per month.

I would also get 25% off of this figure for single person's living allowance wouldn't I?

Don't forget that council tax is generally paid over 10 months (April - January inclusive) rather than 12, so for those months you'll pay 1/10 of the total due then nothing for the other two.

Oh, really?

I'm only 19 and so may be considered naive - is there any reason for it being paid over 10 months or is it just how it's done?

My council will take it over 12 months if you agree to direct debit.

While I'm sure that's the reason why councils like it, it can also be quite a good thing for the payer. You get used to paying, say £100 a month, from April to January, and not having that money to spend, then in February and March you suddenly have £100 that you can do something extra with. Just remember that when April comes again it's back to doing without that money.
