  • I am starting to feel as if I am being slated as a 'jobsworth' for not working past 2.15 but I actually start work about 15 mins early every day (this adds up over the week/month). This week its been more like 30-40 mins early every day. I have often called work from home to discuss issues when I have not had scope to during the day.

I did apologise during the meeting for having to leave. I have a contract that finishes at 2.15 as thats when I need to leave. If I could work later than that, then my contract would reflect that.

I have had this contract for several years now, like I said, I have been promoted on this contract and received good performance related bonuses on this contract (these were not across the board bonuses, they were awarded to individuals). We get a shift in management and suddenly its a problem.

I'm not slating you as a jobsworth at all. I've said nothing of the sort. I'm simply saying that I can see why sometimes management see that as a lack of flexibility. Lots of people do over their contracted hours.

I have a support person where I work who does between 4.5 and 5 hours a day, 4 days a week. It doesn't always fit what I need, as the needs of our department changes a lot. So sometimes I ask her to do slightly different hours; sometimes she can, sometimes she can't. But if she always said no, or always left at 1330 despite anything urgent needing doing, then I'd be reviewing what we needed for the business, that's all.

Obviously I don't know you, and you can read into what I'm saying any way you like! I'm just saying that I can see two sides. And from a legal perspective, the business are allowed to change their minds on their needs (whether you, I or anyone else thinks it's the right thing is another matter!); it's the processes they apply to it that the law cares about. :)

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
