Can't delete a folder - help please

Trying to delete a folder in my pictures but it keeps on saying 'cannot delete it, file being used by another person or programme'

As far as I can see, I am not using it, all other applications are shut

I wouldn't normally be so bothered but it has 2gb on it and I need the space

Any ones any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

It's because you have an opened handle with this file.

You can use this tool Process Explorer:
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx

You don't need to install: just unzip and run. Then select "Find" and "Find handle", type in part of the name, it will display a list of handles. Double click the handle, and it goes back to the main Window with the handle highlighted. Right click on it, kill the handle.

Alternatively, if that's too much hassle and you have this problem often, install Unlocker:
    http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

ONce installed, just right click on the file in the explorer to close its handles.

Once handles are closed, you will be able to delete the file.

before anything, restart and try and delete it as soon as windows starts up before you open anything
    Yes Your Dukeiness :D
  • it is still turned on, you have to disable the program before you can delete it and it also sounds like malware,
    go to
    start
    run
    type in msconfig
    then
    ok
    go to
    startup
    check everything
    click apply
    click ok
    your pc will restart itself
this will turn off all the programs running at start up so remember to go back there and turn things on that you actually need like youe anti-virus
then go to where the folder is and right-click and delete this should delete the folder
    also go to
    start
    search
    all folders and files
type in the mane of the folder
and search for anything else it has left behind
    then delete the lot
    hope this helps
