Had the same problem with an I River 10. It would work on three other computers but not on mine.

    Never solved the problem. Sorry.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Zinger, the first thing to try is plug the device in, right click on My Computer and then click on properties, then Hardware, then device manager. See if there are any items marked as problems. Post back if there are any problems

When you say "does not come up", you mean it doesn't autorun? Or do you mean that it doesn't show as a drive at all in the explorer?
If the latest, do what Phil51 says. If you have a drive with a yellow question mark in the device manager, check it's properties to see if it explains the problem.
Also, you could try it in a different USB port.

Did you install the supplied driver / software before plugging in the player ? If not, unplug the player and uninstall / re-install.

My son has recently bought a Creative Zen mp3 player and has found that it won't work on his computer despite several attempts at installing software, it turns out that it needs to have the Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed (it works on my SP2 machine).

Which player is it - was a thread a while back about USB problems with one specific Sony model.
