Slimming world v slim fast?

Hiya,
Just after some advice really on what to do diet wise.
I've been trying (again ) to start loosing weight since Christmas, trying to stick to slimming world but I just can't get my head round it,I know what I need to do but I'm having a bit of a rough ride lately and eating is the thing I do when stressed!
So this morning I've been looking at slim fast, more than anything to take the food equation out of it during the day when I am at my worst and just have a meal with the family at night.
In my head I'm thinking of maybe doing slim fast for about 8 weeks to give myself a bit of a boost and loose the lbs I've gained since Xmas!!! And then transfer back over to slimming world to loose the rest, I have about 4 stone to loose which seems a huge amount right now
Thanks for any advice xx

    Hi,

I'm not a fan of slim fast to be honest. If like me you are a stress eater you may find you go off the rails a bit if you "limit" yourself to shakes and the like. A stressy day and you may end up tucking into the the biscuit tin of shame!
Maybe you could do a mix of the two ideas? At the mo I am folling this plan:
breakfast:2 x small wholemeal toast slices with marmalade and a piece of fruit/yoghurt if still hungry.
Lunch: soup/ Mug shotz or something like this, more fruit or veggie sticks (carrot/celery etc).
Drink: plenty of water or sugar free squash.
Dinner: A SW type meal, heavy on the veggies and fill up on brown rice/pasta. (e.g Veggie chili, jacket potato & salad, stir fry with rice and quorn. I'm a veggie but you could add lean meat for example.

It is not long term but it has given my weight loss a kick start (lost about 1/2 stone in 2-3 weeks)> I'm now adding things like seeds and nuts for the vitamins, swapping the toast for porridge etc. It is strict when I need it to be in the daytime but flexible at night - yet it is cheap (especially if I make the soup) and works for me.

Whatever you try, I wish you success - let me know how you get on!

  • Slimming world is not a diet, more of a "healthy eating plan" (I know what your probably thinking, its what I tell myself because I hate dieting- Im on SW :rotfl:)

Basically- any recipe can be made SW friendly. Pizza, KFC, chips- or you could just live on shakes...and then when you go back to normal food, put all the weight back on again

    I know what i'd choose.

    :p;)

I agree too the shake thing is probably ok if you have half a stone to lose and want to do it fast but you don't get to a position of being several stone overweight because you can manage without food (believe me I should know!).

I've dropped a couple of stone over the last year or so and would say it's a sort of slimming world type plan. I did do slimming world for a while but didn't really get along with the consultant - if you can find a good consultant go and stick with it, it can be fantastic. And it's a very good eating plan.

The big things that have helped me are going cold turkey on chocolate and alcohol. Haven't had a drink in a few months and this really cuts down on the desire to snack. I'm going to mostly try to stay off till I reach my target (about a stone away now). Exercise also really really helps.

    Good luck!
  • If you are going to go the slimfast route I would highly recommend a website called Approvedfood.co.uk. they do a version from australia called slimmm and they are 12 sachets for £1.49! much cheaper than slimfast or any other brand i know of. They also sell the meal replacement bars/snack bars and soups. I found out about approved food from mse and i order loads from them now and save a fortune. would recommend them to anyone. I do have a link for them and through it i will get credit for it but I am not allowed to post it here and its not why i am telling you this. It is a great site that will save you loads. x.

My DD did exactly what you're suggesting. She started with Slimfast to kickstart weightloss and motivate her then she switched to SW. It wasn't quite that simple as she started to feel quite ill (shaky and lacking energy in the mornings) on Slimfast so she switched PDQ.

i think slimfast is fine if you only have a few lbs to loose to get into an outfit for a special occasion, but i dont think it works long term,

i have done slim fast before, and had success on it, but i just piled it all back on again,

im at SW 34 weeks now, and have lost 71lbs, i know for a fact i defo could never had stayed on slimfast for that duration.
