  • A tip I remember was to write the date of illnesses/ operations etc on the back of your children's birth certificates. It's true, you lose many things in this life, but rarely your children's birth certificates. Certainly worked for me with who had measles when? ( But then again I did have four!!)
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Photogenic I've been Money Tipped!
Just put ICE in front of my OHs name...now just hoping I remember I've changed his name in my phone and don't send a female friend OHs messages! (They're names both normally start with P in my mobiles phonebook :rotfl:)

I have a household notebook which even my 5-year-old daughter refers to sometimes :D

We have emergency information at the very front which I leave available for people who babysit for us but don't live here. I know SIL's & IL's have our mobile numbers but they're not from Liverpool so if they had to phone an ambulance or something they wouldn't be able to give a proper address or directions or know who our doctor is etc.

I also have 1 sheet (which I update periodically, and write on when it was last updated) which contains ALL Emergency information for the three of us including medications, allergies and any longstanding medical conditions (only me with scoliosis fortunately) and the fact that we are ALL donor's, and next of kin information.

Then I also have non-medical emergency information which says where the water/gas/electric shut off is, where the emersion heater is etc.

Best of all though is a "Crisis Card" which was put through our door a while ago which lists LOADS of information like Emergency services, helplines and on the back it has basic first aid instructions. :D Here's the website : http://www.crisiscard.co.uk/

Also, for peace of mind I have in my address section my own copy of
    • Emergency numbers for police, gas etc
    • phone numbers for all the hospitals in the area (all 11 of them..but only 3 are really Emergency ones!)
    • taxi companies (with info like minibus service, no extra charge after midnight etc)
    • Useful numbers like helplines, NHS direct, council etc
    • Travel numbers for airports, bus & coaches, rail & sea (our in-laws travel alot so it's useful to know these numbers incase they say "oh we'll pop in on our way home...our flight number is..." ;) )
Now before you think "thats what you call over cautious" I compiled these lists when DD was less than one and I hadn't been in my own home very long. Fortunately I've never had to use ANY of the information except the gas, council, electric, RSPCA & local police numbers :D But I'd rather be prepared for the worst than have to worry about where to find things ;)
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

this site has some printable sheets to use, chose printables from the menu on the left hand-side. It is primarily an american site but most of the sheets are pretty useful.

include menu planners, address sheets, pressi lists, cleaning lists etc

i have 2 folders , one is bank stuff in. i have a book which is like a huge bank statement , i do have online banking but with this book i know excatly whats in my account at any given time, i have 1 list of the dates each month direct debits go out , so i never miss a payment. i also have a yearly calender printed out , with hubbys pay dates marked on , child ben days. and any bills due to get paid , then once paid they get moved in to the to be filed section.

then i have my household manual. which contains birthday , anniversays , emergancy contact numbers , manuals on how cooker , washing machine and dishwater work incase of a prob. also anything to do with kids and school. pets bit , a shopping sections , cleaning section , meal planner section. it is fab, if i need anything it in the folder.
  • I have three lever arch folders with info like bank statements, telephone etc and buy a calendar which I can write on and fill in the birthdays in January for the year with children I write the age they will be in brackets beside their birthday. Plus I write on when my home insurance, car insurance and MOT is due as these are easy to miss.

I have accounts etc on the PC, and when I made my will a couple of years ago there is a copy in my file and one with my sister who will be the executor. I also have a home notebook which I keep in my handbag - handy for writing down room measurements if you're looking for blinds, carpets etc and for shopping lists.:T
  • Great advice, one to include is lottery numbers. This will take forever to compile but hopefully when it is done i can easily add or take away information.
    now mum of 4!!!
