A bank loan would do it.

If there's any way you can avoid taking a loan, I recommend doing that first..... Your in a delicate position, further debt should be avoided at all costs.

It's a pity mortgage providers don't allow self-certification any more. They have the security of a house in case of non payment. Anyway, declaring income way in excess of your actual income is technically an offence (especially if the loan goes unpaid). It's a catch-22 situation. Can't work without transport but can't get transport without having a job to pay the loan. I'd recommend getting a banger any old £200 car will do (with at least 6 months MOT at the very least) just until you have the job then buy a newer more reliable car ans scrap the banger.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

A £200 banger will cost more to insure than a £1500 car.

    A golf 1.6l 100,000K mileage will cost me £1200 to insure (car costs £1500). Total spend 1yr = £2700

    a £200 car will cost £2000 to insure. Total spend 1yr = £2200

The £200 will inevitably have problems and cost you money for upkeep. Plus the driving experience will be completely crap. I would not trust a £200 car on a dual carriageway let alone a motorway.

It's worth paying more to get the bare necessities, the skimp out and fear that the car could break any minute.

    Moped
Cheap to buy, cheap to insure, cheap to run and will get you to work.

It's good for junior positions or jobs where you dont have to dress sharp.

But can get annoying if you have to be well presented.

Not moped but this is what I think of when I see a suited guy on a moped, with tie flapping around.

Don't know of any concessionary way to get a loan...

I give another vote for a moped - and, contrary to what the previous poster says, you can still wear suits and get there in an uncrumpled condition.

Moped doesn't shout 'junior' at all - it suggests that you want to get where you're going without getting stuck in traffic or wasting massive amounts in fuel.

Anyway, once you start the job you may also find that someone goes your ways and could give you a lift in return for some petrol money. Put a card on the staff notice board to see.

If you really can't see anyway of getting there - public transport not do-able? - then stay in a close B&B for the first month. You can get some really affordable rates if you book a whole month of weekdays and then start looking for a car when you know you like the job, know you're staying and start getting paid.

i was in similer position as u about 3 weeks ago.

my car broke down (2002 reg) as a problem with the engine, bought a cheap £300 ford puma, insurance £424 a year total £724 a year, 8 month mot, 8 months tax, bit rust on arch and small dent in the door.

cover 350 miles a week, faultless

insurance depends on a lot, job, age, NCB, location, points and so on

You on drugs? Or you speaking on personal oppinion and not facts?

2003 model 1.0 corsa 100,000 miles cost of insurance cheapest quote i could find £3,000

1996 Corsa 1.2 got a quote for £800 fully comp and car had a dent in rear quarter so i got it for £150 with 12months test and 1 month tax.

Needs must so i took the banger option.
