House prices going to tumble on this news.
About bloody time too, enough of this crap of low interest rates and printing money to keep house prices 50% above what they should be.

Anyone stupid enough to have bought a house at inflated prices over the last ten years deserves everything that's coming their way.

The only thing "coming their way" is increasing house prices.
The crash has been over for years.
Deal with it.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

I see the BBC have this as their top story this morning, trying to incite the nation into blind panic by telling everyone mortgages might go up by £3.50 a week.
I like the way they don't give any actual numbers for interest only and simply say there could be a 14% rise... why not just say £40 a month.
Stupid lefties probably can't work it out.0 -
I am sorry but smamst is a horrible person. There is a generation of people who simply wanted to buy their first home. How small minded to sit back and sneer at others misfortune. People caught by house price fluctuations weren't all people trying to make a fast buck.0

This will cause fury amongst hardworkingfamilieswithmortgages who didn't understand the meaning of the word 'variable' when they signed their mortgage agreement. It's clearly a misselling scandal.1. The house price crash will begin.
2. There will be a dead cat bounce.
3. The second leg down will commence.

I think it's being reported that this affects 1m Halifax customers which is close to 10% of total UK mortgages. If mortgage holders are living at the edge of penury as implied by many then then this increase will be significant to the total market as distressed sellers hit the market.
However, the doom mongers glee will be short lived because it's not going to make a jot of difference other than an annoyance to mortgage holders.
If these 1m Halifax customers are so hard up that they have to cancel their Sky subscription then I might take a different view.0 -
It is laughable that they are blaming Libor for the increases when the banks have just borrowed billions at 1% from the ECB.I don't want to achieve immortality through my work, I want to achieve it through not dying0
