Tesco/ Lidl/ Sainsbury's?

These are the three supermarkets within a reasonable drive to me. We also have an Asda but it is 15 miles away so have to factor in the cost of the petrol in getting there.
Traditionally I have been a Tesco shopper but have noticed a substantial hike in their prices lately (Value biscuits price increase of 25% for example...)
I do buy a lot of own brands. Am not opposed to value/ basic brands except for some things. (I like "good" bread, am doing Slimming World and require leaner cuts of meat although we don't have meat any day by any stretch).
We go through a lot of fruit and veg (fam of four, although hub has appetite of three....) so have started shopping in Lidl for that.
Traditionally I've avoided Sainsburys as rightly or wrongly I perceive them to be more expensive but I did a good *basics laden* shop their last week and was able to feed us all, really well for a week on £60.
What supermarkets do you rate for value and quality?

Supermarkets seem to be hugely variable even between stores in the same chain. I don't like Tesco because their offers all tend to be on snacky stuff not real food and their Internet delivery service is rubbish. My mother has shopped at Sainsbury's all her life and she also shops at Lidl now. I used Sainsbury's for awhile then ASDA as I saved around 14% on the average shop cf Sainsbos. But now its becoming ready meal happy I'm probably going to go to Morrisons. Very happy with the veg, cheese and deli stuff at Lidl and use Formil washing powder.0

Thanks Edwardia. I wish we had a Morrisons near us!
Lidl is only two doors up from work, so handy for bits and pieces.
I think I just have to be really canny with my shopping - making sure i'm getting the best deal possible. No idly sauntering through the aisles and throwing stuff in the trolley any more,0 -
I prefer Sains as I like their own brand stuff. Tescos is ok but I dont like the layout of the store near me as much.
I used to work in a job where I saw on a daily basis the prices of Tesco and Sains, and Sains really is not more expensive than them. Asda was definitely a bit cheaper, but like you Id have to factor in petrol. And I went there a couple of weeks ago, and wont be going back again in a hurry, it was awful in there, and my store is so huge it would take you ages to do a shop.0 -
I'm another who thinks that Sainsbobs is cheaper if you're buying 'proper food'. I do a lot of shopping for ingredients for school and often put shopping lists into my supermarket and Sains is nearly always cheapest. I also find that the few times I've tried Tesc* the shelf prices for value veg and fruit are lower but there's no stock whereas Sains the price may be 5 or 10p more but I can always get basics peppers, mushrooms, apples etc. the price for flour, sugar etc is usually the same across the big 4 but much cheaper at Li*l.I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly
