There are free alternatives such as The GIMP, although you need to run it inside X11. I know that the pro apps like Photoshop are expensive, however there are ways to keep the cost down.
Have a look on eBay for older versions. I got my copy of Photoshop 7 a few years ago for about £200 (an unused ligit licence), I think CS had just come out. I still use 7 as it does everything I need it to do, it's also less resource heavy than the newer versions. I also got a copy of Director 7 for about £50, ok it's pretty old in comparison to Photoshop 7 (doesn't run in OSX), but again it was an unused licence. Bear in mind Photoshop is about £500 and Director about £900 IIRC.
You might be able to get cheap upgrades in the future too if the version in question isn't too old, and remember your student discount too. Educational licences are often heavily discounted, especially sometimes if you get them through your institution.
Also, if you only need an app for a specific project, most of the Adobe/Macromedia products have fully featured 30-day trials.0 -
Yeah sure, got loads of copies of photoshop just laying around gathering dust.
Expensive tastes for a student, would have been better of with a pc, more graphic software available for the pc.
No one is going to give a legit copy of photoshop or even corel draw for that.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
Don't forget you can dual boot with windows... that way you can run PC software too so that Neil's sneering comments become fairly meaningless!0

Look on http://www.freemacware.com/ - they have a very comprehensive selection of all kinds of free Mac software and highlight a new one every week day at 10 a.m. UK time. You may find the sort of thing you're looking for there. Even if not, you'll find all kinds of other great Mac software there.0
