I was going to suggest visiting royalmail.com to complain but I have just discovered this.....

Items posted on March 22 will be subject to delay as result of a chemical spillage at our National Distribution Centre which occurred that night. Every effort would have been made to deliver items sent by Special Delivery by the guaranteed delivery date. If this was not possible, no refunds will be made as Royal Mail has enforced its Force Majeure. Items posted in Northern Ireland for delivery in Northern Ireland and for mail posted in Scotland for delivery in Scotland and between Northern Ireland/Scotland are now not affected."

Sorry to have built your hopes up but it looks like they may have got away with it...!!!
