Credit Report Help

Just looking for some advice on my husbands credit report. We are looking at remortgaging shortly so have been looking on here for advice and help, and I sent off for our credit reports as many people recommend.

Mine is absolutely fine, and my husbands would be apart from an incorrect entry for a credit agreement that was completed incorrectly:

Our son bought a car on finance about 3 years or more now and took finance with Welcome. He was told his dad would have to be his guarantor and the paperwork was all filled in. When we recieved copies it showed my husband as the main applicant which we queried. We were then told that this was incorrect and that actually, my son didnt need a guarantor at all as he did have an active mobile phone credit account, and the paperwork was redone with him as the main applicant.

Everything proceeded okay until my son was made redundant a couple of years down the line. Luckily, as he had paid over half he was able to terminate the agreement and hand the car back (which he agreed to do reluctantly as he just could not afford it while out of work)

Now we see on the credit report that my husband has an entry by welcome which is not in default, but shown as current with a line of number '8's (as no payment has ever been made by my husband it was paid under my sons agreement)

We have tried everything with Welcome, as they shut down our loacal office (any many others) about 2 years ago and gave us no other alternative contact details. We have written to every address we can find and have had no response and dont know what to do or how to get this removed - As I assume this will throw our mortgage plans right out??

We called a number we found on an old letter but the person wouldnt say who they were, and said they couldnt discuss anything with us if the agreement was in our sons name, and then put the phone down on us - now it never answers.

Would this come off his report after 6 years? - surely by now it should have become a default? Do defaults come off after 6 years even if it has not been settled? as there is no balance to be paid off.

Any help or advice appreciated about how this will affect our application and any ideas how to get it off the report?

Thank you very much
