Swift Credit.

Woohoo.. another debt lol.. (actually to be honest i am pleased as am sooo close to clearing everything!)

ok, so heres my problem.

Council tax in old house went unpaid, the council say they never recieved my request for final bill when i moved out and therefore never sent it on to me or cancelled my Tax.

Fast forward a fwe months and swift credit contact me asking for £1000 in arrears on council tax. I dispute this and contact the council in question. They agree after proof of date i had moved out and reduce bill to £500 and then ask me to recontact the DCA to arrange payment.

So i contact Swift to setup a payment of £100 per month and they have advised that they will only accept full payment incl of charges, or ill have to have the bayliff round to do an inventory. =/

Is this right? why wont they let me pay in installments?

Any help appreciated.

  • Ask the council to call the debt back from the debt collectors, as they were at fault for issuing it in the first place, and offer them the same payments.

Agree, been through a similar one recently.

Phone the council, tel them to take it back as there was no reason to send it to bailiff.

If Bailiff comes round in the mean time, certainly don't let them in and don't sign anything. Worth remembering that the council cannot refuse to take any payment from you. Pay online if necessary. They are not obliged to take instalments, but in making payments you will demonstrate that you are willing to pay should things drag on a bit

Has anyone taken this to court? If not swift credit's talk of bailiffs is total poppycock.
