I know, but you were the 11th person to post. I said I was surprised they'd not been mentioned earlier ;-)0 -

Yes, you're probably right, but I enjoy looking at the shopping other people have on the conveyor belt at the supermarket till. The meat-eating population seem to eat the most awful processed junk with not much in the way of fresh fruit and veg. From what I've seen anyway. I think most people no matter what they eat need to educate themselves about basic nutrition.0 -
Bitter and Twisted - we are all Marmite mad in our house so most of eat it at least once a day - (including DD19) so should think that sorts out the B12 supply. We all lived in Asia for 14 years, when visiting relatives would ask us if they could bring us anything from UK it was always 'MARMITE!'
I am really hoping going vegan will get DD19 into food, cooking and nutriton. She would like us all to go organic, and though that would be nice we just can't afford to presently. We do our best to live healthily with what we have buying seasonal fruit and veg from the wholesale market, free range chicken and eggs, brown pasta, brown sugar and very little processed food etc. Suprisingly if anyone buys junk food - it's her! So I'm am a bit worried how this is going to effect her. Like I said all I can do is provide the food and see if she does something about it - rather than like you said live on chips/baked beans/crisps.
Doom_and_Gloom - Yes, she's going vegan by lifestyle as well. I know not to buy her anything leather or wool etc.
Probably resident vegans will disagree with me, but from what I've seen accomadating a vegan is alot more complicated than accomadating a vegetarian. I'm prepared to meet her halfway by buying the food, and everyone is prepared to eat vegan IF she prepares it, but I think it's wrong to expect your whole family to become vegan and cook vegan just because you can't be bothered. No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0 -
Vegans don't wear wool? I did not know that. Blimey, sheep aren't killed for their fleeces so I don't understand why they aren't acceptable. This life-style option is obviously not for me.0

Think of it like this you have three ways of catorgarising (sp?) things
- Animal
- Mineral
- Vegetable
This explains it in more detail http://www.vegansociety.com/resources/animals/sheep-and-wool.aspxI am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy

Hi Shandyclover,
you've had lots of good information, I'd just like to thank you for being so supportive of your daughter's choice. I visit a large vegan forum and see other young people whose families totally reject the idea. And as a mother of teenagers I'd also like to support you in your need to see her making a contribution to her food preparation - maybe the others could take on some more responsibility there as well. This is .... ahem .... something we are 'working on'.
