Conveyancing and Adding Name to Deeds

I've been quoted £700 as the cost of both of the above in connection with taking out a mortgage of £30,000 on a property worth about £170,000. This seems like a lot of money for a bit of pen-pushing? Can it be done any cheaper? Thanks for anyone's thoughts on this.
