Hello,
Have read a few posts about the above collections company and just want to know if anyone has sucessfully got them to go away?
I recieved a letter the other day telling me they had bought a debt from a bank account that I closed years ago, so long ago that they addressed the letter to me in my maiden name and I've been married 6 and a half years, totalling £224.18 but the letter stated that they were willing to take half of that as a settlement. I was just going to pay but am really suspicious about it all. As it has been so long can I refuse to pay? I don't even remember having a debt with the bank but have nothing to prove I haven't.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Might well be a statute barred debt (although with overdrafts its a bit different to other debts in termsof when the relevant date starts).
Have a read of this link and possibly consider the hybrid letter in post #5 (or it might be 7).

I have got them to go away. It couldn't be simpler. You just totally ignore them and they realise they are wasting their time. They are just chancing their arm with this one. They know it is pretty certainly statute barred, but were hoping you didn't.
No wonder they were prepared to take half, you didn't imagine they would have said that if they thought they could enforce it, do you? They said that because it was half or nothing.
Make it nothing.0
