Can't get to google!

Hey everyone,
I have had this problem all day now, but i can't seem to get to the google search engine all day. I tried using IE, then firefox, cleared the cache, tried a system restore and pretty much everything i can think of.

Somehow, i can get to here and a few other sites, but google (as well as timesonline and some others) just don't seem to work. I even tried changing DNS settings, but to no avail. I even used my dad's computer, but still couldn't get on. This could be a problem with my ISP (Ezeedsl - the aftermath of E7even)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

try putting 72.14.221.104 in the address bar

if that gets you to Google English then you have a DNS problem.

  • Hey,

I tried the IP address and got to google that way, but how can i set up my DNS settings properly? I use OpenDNS as a DNS server but again, this is working for certain sites then not for others. I even tried ezeedsl's own DNS servers, but they had the same problem

    Any suggestions?

Seems your DNS is not resolving the names

    reboot your router -
flush your PC's DNS cache "ipconfig /flushdns" in a cmd window.

have a look in your "hosts" file

Try another address by name.... still no joy ..then

Do posts 1-4 in this thread Malware/Spyware Removal Guide

  • Sorry, what's the 'hosts' file?

Also, because it also happened on my dad's computer (which i never use), and i did a prelim check with adaware (with no results), i think it probably is something at ezee's end. Has anybody else had this problem?

Only now do i realise how much i love google! (i know thats sad... but ah well)

  • hey,

Thanks for the help, i checked the hosts file and it all seems cool, 1 for localhost and one for the Xdrive software i have (that uses some loopback adapters and stuff). I'll have a more thorough go at the spyware/malware 2morrow, at the momentm, google'll have to wait

    Thanks again GreenNotM

You haven’t said that you can’t resolve the domain names locally, just that you can’t access certain websites. Assuming that you can resolve the names locally, then it’s a problem with the Ezeedsl HTTP proxy server you’re going through. Most UK ISPs use intercepting proxies. With these, even if you don’t have a proxy set in your web browser, all the traffic that is being sent to the standard HTTP port of port 80 gets redirected to one of the ISP’s proxy servers. Although you can resolve a domain name, the proxy will get the URL with the domain name unresolved and need to resolve it itself. If it then has a problem with this, you’ll see the problems you’re describing.

Try looking at a page such as xhaus.com: HTTP header check, to confirm if you’re going through a proxy. The remote IP address won’t be the address your router or computer has been given by your ISP. You may also have an X_FORWARDED_FOR header showing your own IP address.

  • Hey Alfie E

Tried what you said, but sadly it was to no avail. It seems that other ezeedsl customers have a similar problem at Thinkbroadband.com at
