Simple Steps for Sally

Hello Everyone!

I have been lurking around here for longer than I dare to admit and have finally bitten the bullet and joined the £10 a day challenge (@£7.50).

I am hoping for some support and encouragement – but most of all, some tough love because, from tomorrow, I am embarking on a plan to ease my financial situation. At the moment, I am meeting all my commitments but sometimes walk very close to the line and, ideally, would like to pay my CCs off a lot more quickly.

Having tried -- and swiftly become overwhelmed by – large, overall targets, I have decided to set myself achievable, minimum daily and weekly goals.

These will be my goals for March:

Daily
  • Complete one paid survey
  • 20 minutes clicking
  • Submit one paid freelance writing assignment
  • Apply for one new freelance writing gig
  • List one item on Ebay
  • Post any paid for Ebay items
  • Enter 5 competitions
  • Check (and obtain, if appropriate) vouchers and freebies
  • At least one important, outstanding task
  • Check banking
  • Claim anything that is due to pay out
  • Meals from menu plan
  • If I need a day off, I will double-up the day before, not promise myself to make up afterwards!

Weekly
  • Pay at least £5 extra to both Mint and Sygma
  • Complete/update inventory of cupboards, fridge and freezer
  • Menu plan and shopping list
  • Bank any cash or cheques from pet business clients

I will record progress on here and hope you goof folks will come down hard on me for any procrastination or lame excuses.

Obviously, the targets will change with time – for instance, if I was ever lucky enough to be inundated with writing gigs, I would stop the new client search for a time.

If anyone is kind enough to subscribe, keep me motivated and kick my butt, I will gladly return the favour!

Love, hugs and hope,

Sally x x x

  • I have now done the snowball calculator and have edited my original post to add a monthly snowball payment - initially this will be to Sygma. Will still pay the extra £5s to Mint to avoid showing as "minimum payment" on my credit file (never know when I might decide to apply for a nice 0% transfer - LOL!)

  • Simply couldn't start March without throwing out huge cyber hugs and massive thanks to all you inspirational people of these boards.

I started doing little DFW things in Feb and -- although I've not noticed great big surges in extra income (lots tracking tho'!) -- my bank situation is a lot easier today than it was at the beginning of Feb. This can only be due to all the DFW tips I've picked up on here!

So far today I have checked banking and transferred some Paypal payments to current account. That's only one thing to cross off my list so far - but the day is young!

    Debt-free and Proud!
Hi and welcome to diary land! :D

I think it's very easy to get disheartened when you see people making huge payments which seem like they are on a daily basis! However, little payments and extra earnings add up. In 2011, I made (profit) £2500 from eBay and most of that was items selling for 99p, even 1p! :p

Also, I've found attacking one debt at a time has really helped me see bigger difference quicker. I'm now down to one 'real' debt, because I systemically tackled each one, again making even the smallest of payments. I think my record was £1 to Barclaycard! :p

Anyway, good luck to you. I'm sure you'll do great and you're in the right place to get support :)

  • Sorry if I'm boring everyone but I'm all fired up and want to share!

I have completed a survey (first attempt - no screenout!)

Have also gone through my list of pending writing assignments (on the site I most often write for, I am able to claim up to 10 for my queue and replace as/when they are submitted) and managed to replace five of the $16 articles with others that pay $25!!! Normally, I just work my way through whatever I have claimed but the "every-penny-counts" mentality has well and truly kicked in.

Now off to walk dogs and will bank money en route.

Kicking myself for failing on the three easiest/nicest tasks!!! All I can say in my defense is that I saved them till last so I could chill while doing them but then ran out of steam!

Maybe I'll try rescheduling these for my lunch break in future.
