Littlewoods default

Options
Hello everyone, firstly my apologies as I am relatively new here, and don't really know what I'm doing.

Recently I have applied for a mortgage and after having a chat with the adviser realise I have 2 defaults on my credit report, 1 for a credit card which falls off in September (After the 6 years so I’m told) and one for (Mail order catalogue) which I now know was a Littlewoods account.

I’m looking for a bit of advice, my current credit report suggests that I am in the fair category (775), after the credit card falls off in September is it likely to impact the report? And secondly, I don’t recall ever receiving any mail from Littlewoods regarding the default, which firstly annoys me, and secondly was for only £80, this has since been paid, around 4 years ago. Would it be a good idea to send a letter to them asking for them to relook at it, as like I said, I have never received any notices of the above, and secondly, are my chances any good for getting this mortgage, with this £80 default still on my credit report?

I’ve read a few people have been successful, particularly having not received correspondence; equally I believe a few people have been successful in giving littlewoods the ‘sob story’ about the defaulted amount being so long and it causing unrest, which it most certainly is with myself and my partner.

Thanks to everyone who can help, any tax credits advice, give me a shout.

Note: Does anyone know who I would speak to about changing my username?

Does your credit report show the littlewoods default as satisfied? or is it still showing as outstanding.

Having 1 small default will look better on your file than having 2 in terms of getting a mortgage. But even then you might still have issues getting a mortgage from a high street lender at the best rates available. You'd need to speak to the advisor who was recommending that particular mortgage product. You might also want to speak to an independant mortgage advisor (if yours isn't).

How old is the littlewoods default? Worth a try to try to get it removed certainly. When you say you don't recall getting mail from littlewoods - do you mean don't recall getting a default notice or don't recall getting any paperwork/chasing regarding an outstanding debt?

In terms of your username, they won't usually change them unless there is a specific reason to (eg in terms of an issue with privacy if someone has used their own name) - have a read here - How can I change my username?

  • Does your credit report show the littlewoods default as satisfied? or is it still showing as outstanding. The littlewoods default is showing as satisfied, back in early 2009

It was with my bank, HBOS, so you would certainly recommend going independant?

The default is from around April 2008, I definately remember getting the default letter , which was why I paid soon after, however prior to this I have no recollection of recieving any letters chasing the debt up.

If you got a default letter you then it states you have 14 days to rectify the account before a default is registered with the CRAs (some creditors give 30days on their letters). Did you pay up within that time? if so then a default should not have been registered.

  • No I don't think I did, it came all of a sudden and with no prior warning, so paying within that length of time was sadly not going to happen.
