money saving on electric toothbrushes

Options
what's the most economical way of using electric toothbrushes?

I tend to use a brushead way longer than intended, when the indicator bristles that are supposed to tell you to use new brushes have gone way past their halfway mark.

But I understand that the best brush you get is the first when, it almost feels dentist clean, really gets deep into the gumline it seems.

I'm using a cheap £20 oral b vitality, brushheads can range from £10-£15 for four.

According to oral b i should be replacing them every week, but it feels far too expensive to do that.

I used asda's own brand compatible ones, but the power and battery lasted a lot less than oralb's brushheads. I think probably because the sockets and rotor weren't properly aligned.

Whats the best way to get the best clean and to spend as little ongoing money as possible on brusheads?

    Every WEEK?

    Nonsense.

    Read the packaging again!!

You should get 3 months out of 1 brush head. A pack of four should last you A YEAR.

Read the instructions on how to brush your teeth with the toothbrush you have bought.

I wouldn't use a brush for much longer than it's recommended or indicated wear time. What you save on toothbrush replacement fees you will more than spend on dentist/hygienist fees!

But I think you will find the packet doesn't recommend weekly changes.

I would say about 8 - 12 weeks depending on how hard you are on them!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I don't think that#'s true, they say on the packs to use a brushead until the blue bristles lose their colour up to the halfway point.

Or when it goes a little shaggy. Shaggy brushs are very ineffective because they don't clean inbetween teeth on into the gumline properly.

Can you rely on the blue indicator?

I always make a note when I replace my Phillips sonic head so I don't exceed 3 months.

I find it hard to tell the difference between the colour stages and they never seem to start off dark blue like on the packaging.

I try to buy them when 1/3 to 1/2 off. (otherwise around £20 for 3 heads)

Also the Triumph heads fit any Braun handle. These AFAIK are the best at cleaning.

I wasn't aware that the Sonicare heads changed colour! (But my hygienist is more the toothbrush expert that me!)

If your brushes are spreading out or looking worn after 1 week you are probably pressing much too hard. Some of the Braun toothbrushes have a warning for this, you feel and hear an extra buzz from the toothbrush if you press too hard. It is a mechanical sensation, different from the 30 second timers. Not sure if the Vitality has this feature but it will be mentioned in the instruction leaflet if it is.
