P11D Query

in Cutting tax
Hi All,
I work for a bank and as have a mortgage through my work. The BIK is actually negative due to the current interest rate so it shows as a BIK of £0.00 on my P11D.
I am considering taking a company car which would of course attract BIK. My query is would the BIK off the car be off-set to a degree due to the negative BIK of my mortgage?
Thanks

Hello there
Nice try - but I'm afraid not! HMRC do not recognise the concept of a negative benefit. Something is either a benefit in kind or it isn't. If your employer provides you with something that derives no benefit, it does not fall within the employment tax legislation and is ignored.
So, unfortunately the company car will be liable to tax in full.0
