Saw this advert and thought it looks too good to be true but was wondering what the catch is. What do you think? Has anyone heard of the company or had any experience with them?

It'll pay minimum wage, involve doing repetitive tasks (so not like gaming at all, more like grinding eternally) and all the eager fanboys with a certificate in QA will get first dibs.
They're also hoping you think they are Zylom (legit company.) May even be gold farming. Might as well apply, but watch out if it is self employed!Debt free 4th April 2007.

You'd think that 'Zyon Media, a global leader in the Online Gaming industry' would have their own website wouldn't you? I had a good look on Google and I couldn't find one. In fact just about the only things I could find were this thread, that Gumtree ad and a notice that said that New Zealand company Zyon Media Ltd were dissolved in 2006.

I wouldn't give my personal details to such a company - and to follow a previous poster, if they are so big why are they advertising on Gumtree?Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Well like others i applied for the position and to be honest i am a little dubious.
Sounds too good to be true and it does make out that they are Zylom when in fact not.
I am not prepared to give them any details of my computer etc as I just don't know.
I always say go with your gut instinct and my gut instinct is telling me to back away.
This is there email reply to me.
Hi,
Thank you for your application. Sorry about the late reply, there's been a lot of applications.
To start, I want to inform you that most importantly, we are looking to develop a great long-term relationship that is win-win, and there's nothing that is more important than the both of us feeling good with working with each other. After all, FUN is our company's top value!
With over one hundred applicants you are one who interested us, and we'd be happy to take you further through this inverview process.
We're looking for a reliable person who we can rely on to fulfill the QA position for our online games now, as well as in the future for other games we release. If you'd also like the same, perfect! Please continue reading.
What we want to do now is request a sample from you please, as it is the best way for us to filter through all of our applicants to find the best suitable person for this job.
We're asking for a sample for these 3 key reasons:
1) To see that you're serious about working with us
2) To see how you follow directions
and 3) To see how fast you take action
So here's your sample task:
First, register and install the following two games, Exoplanet and Forsaken World, play both until you're comfortable with each one, and then write a short text file letting us know which game you liked more and why. Name the file with your full name and reply to this email with the file as an attachment.
And that's all!
I do want to mention, your ability to follow directions is really what we're testing you on, as this role requires all team mates to be able to follow directions well. So if you want to really be considered for this role, please be sure to follow these directions exactly as we've described them.
And one last thing, please answer these questions:
- What are your computer specs? Ghz? Ram? Operating System?
- How many hours a week can you work?
- Why do you want to work with us?
- Are you able to start right away?
Thank you very much, I look forward to your reply and building a great working relationship with each other!
Respectfully,
Jake Evans

Yeah...my other half just got exactly the same reply! Not entirely sure what the catch is yet but don't think he's going to take it any further!0

This is the link thats linked to on the link posted by coopdivi, doesn't really tell you much though, sounds dodgy. I was expecting a proper site for zyon media.0 -
Since when did recruitment tell people how many applications they have recieved.
My brother works for a well known games company and they do not ask to register and install games, never mind giving them the link direct straight to your computer.
AVOID, AVOID, AVOIDIt's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -

Hi there, long time user of the MSE site here, not very often I post though ...Since when did recruitment tell people how many applications they have recieved.
...
Good point!
I also replied to this ad on gumtree yesterday, after a friend saw it and told me. I also got that exact same e-mail reply at around 7:30 this morning.
Anything involving gumtree always has me suspicious from the off. I've seen a few scams on gumtree before (when looking for accomodation or employment), and have actually reported a couple myself.
I thought it strange that nobody here has mentioned where the link to zyonmedia.com redirects too. If you type it in the browser address bar (I did so in a sandboxed browser btw), you get redirected to an Italian site called zyon.it
So I 'googled' zyonmedia and one of the top links came up with this MSE forum thread. Having been a user of MSE for some years, I came straight here to see what people where saying about it, and I think I've had my suspiscions confirmed .....
Needless to say I won't be installing any software on my PC, as I expect it could well be malicious!
[edit] : I've just realised that the links to download the 'games' to test are not even hosted at their own site, but at a site called tracklead.net (right click the links for properties, don't click on them). 'Googling' tracklead.net produces a bunch of threads relating to SCAMS.
So yes, I also say AVOID. If something on the 'net sounds too good to be true, it almost definately is, and gumtree is a site I've avoided like the plague for some time now. This episode has just reminded my why!0 -
I've seen this type of internet marketing scam before.
Basically the guy who is running the scam gets paid every time someone registers to play the game.
It's basically lead generation that he's doing for 2 different companies.
If you click on the Forsaken World link from the e-mail
& scroll down they do have a careers page
if you are serious about doing it.
Hope this helped.0
