How can I get wages out my account pronto?

Options
Hi can anyone help me. Have opened up a new Coop Cashminder account but wasnt enough time to get salary paid in, and as credit commitments havent been paid, am worried that BOS will dip into my salary which was deposited into my BOS account today.

I have today went to the cash machine and withdrew £200. I then visited a Post Office cash machine tonight and tried to do the same, but it spat out my card. Is there any way to get double the maximum withdrawal out per day so I can lift my wages fast?

I was going to do a transfer online via bill payment on bank ofscotland, but it said they would phone me to authorise (presumably as I put in £700 - quite a big payment) but I dont want them to phone me and then their alarm bells start ringing, if not already done so. HHelp, any advice appreciated.

Buy something small in a shop and ask for £50 cashback? (in shops that offer cashback of course).
    Try a smaller transfer online?
Go in branch tomorrow and ask to do a larger withdrawal maybe?

  • Hey there - the online transfer requires an automated call for security, but it is automated, you wouldn't necc speak to a person.

I would clear the account this way myself. (Presuming you are all set up, security cleared and they have your phone number on file)

  • Thanks Backinbusiness, i didnt know it was automated that is helpful. Will it take 3 days to hit the co-op account do you think? or will it be quicker?

Have you ever set up a new payee before?

Set your new account details up with yourself as payee and BoS will ring you for confirmation. They will provide you with a 4 digit pin on screen for you to enter on your phone keypad, then Bob's your Uncle.

Check they have valid phone numbers for you first tho'

Not sure how quickly - if it goes by Faster Payments should be a couple of hours at most!

Let me know how you get on.

  • Hi again.

Just logged on myself to check.

Go to your account - click payments - new recipient - pay a person and input the details there.

If they don't have a phone number for you, you won't get past that stage.

  • Thanks Back in Business that's great advice, I will do transfer tonight. I went to the cashpoint this morning and withdrew maximum £250 and then went inside store and got another £50. Still got another £800 to get out, hopefully will be okay, and hopefully wont need to do this again next month.

I wonder if you know, but see if you have a basic bank account and we need to save required sums of money for SOA items like car mot/tax, haircuts, xmas etc etc., I am really struggling to work out places to put this money. I know I could have cash in the house in jars, but worry about dipping into it, (although think i'll have one or 2 jars in house) but if I try and accumulate the money in the basic cashminder account, I fear it will get muddled with my bill money etc, Can you open another basic account with same bank, or do co-op have savings jars you can transfer online to/from, or can i open another basic a/c with another bank or will they reject me coz already got one recently???? so many questions, but tricky getting head round all this !! Thanks,

I don't think you can have more than one basic account. The Co-op do have a savings account called Smart Saver which you can link to the Cashminder account, online transfers between them are instant.

  • Thanks Mort I have just applied online for the Smart Saver account, hope it is accepted as this would help a great deal with budgeting.
