Couple more questions post BR.

Hi there

Cant believe its a quarter of the way through the BR year already, all is quiet and going well, money very tight but didn't expect anything other.

1 - We got behind in the first quarter due to 3 x car repairs and have had to sell some items to get even with bills. Do I need to let the OR know, they were £120.

2- Any ideas what happens to an exempt car needed for work and the allowances, if the owner gets a job that doesn't require a car??? can it still be kept.

3 - I may only be a quarter through the year but into my 6th months tenancy with the house and of course looking ahead and making plans. Anyone know if at the end of the tenancy, you have to sign up with the agent for another term or does it just roll on......sure the agent said 12m is better than 6m as we wont have to pay two lots of money for the contract renewal which tells me we have to start a new contract and pay for it to be drawn up. Would prefer it to roll on in case we strike lucky with social housing, been on the list for years so you never know.

Many thanks again guys.....plodding along nicely couldn't have done it without you. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    1. no, not unless they were assets that were due to be taken in the bankruptcy, which i presume that they were not

    2. once they have decided that it is exempt and sent form REPR to that effect, that is it, you can do what you want with it, cant be taken back after that

    3. depends on the agent and the landlord, some moght just let it roll on, but if there is money to be made from you :)

    hope that helps

If I remember right, there's no IPA? If you had an IPA and an unexpected expense such as car repair, then a chat with the OR's office can sometimes be fruitful to temporarily reduce the IPA to afford the expense.

Agree with DI about the rental contract. There is no legal requirement to sign up to a new one, it's just another income stream for agents and I believe they often charge the landlord as well as the tenant! I know a few people who have had success in arguing the 'no need' with an agent and therefore avoided the renewal fees. But this is more likely with a small local agent than any of the national ones!

    Thanks Inan

Yes no IPA thank the Lord and getting things back together in my family which has suffered the strains and stresses of repo and BR the last year. Thankfully now on the other side, feeling so much better.

Will bear that in mind re the house as really don't want to tie into any 12m contract again as you never know what is around the corner. Thanks for all your help lovely.
