Hi everyone - can i just check with the washing of uniforms thing - i guess it only dates back 6 or 7 years then? Typical i had a job before this where i had to change uniform everyday so lots of washing and ironing was done and if i can get anything back for it i'd be most happy :D

My letter stated it went back to 2005 / 2006. so yes around 6 years worth to claim back
  • What did you guys say in your letters? OH has been working in a uniform that he has to maintain for years, and I worked in a job when I had a uniform back in 2007 - 2008.

I've been meaning to get round to doing this for ages, but have never quite managed it as I'm not sure what to say!

Meeting with recruiter arranged for Wednesday!! Eeep!

Claiming for first time - need to do it by post

Send a letter to the tax office on your payslip/P60, or to the generic address HM Revenue & Customs, Pay As You Earn, PO Box 1970, Liverpool, L75 1WX. Write 'Repayment Claim' on the envelope to speed things up.

The letter should include and mention the following (where applicable):

    • Employer's name and address and dates of employment for the past six years
    • Your occupation, job title and industry sector
    • Details of any laundry or cleaning services provided by your employer, if any
    • Details, if any, of payment or vouchers provided by your employer to cover laundry or other costs
    • Why your uniform can't be worn outside work (eg, it includes the company logo)
    • Whether you want the rebate to be deducted from the current year's tax or you would like a cheque
You will then be sent a letter telling you how much you're entitled to. It could take around 5 weeks to process your claim.

Beaten to it by Aesop as per usual!! :D

I was going to copy and paste that letter, but then saw that the next post said you had to also include that you do not get reimbursed etc already by your employer already, as obviously you cannot make a claim for something you haven't really paid for.
