Is there anything else I could be doing?

The last job I applied for was the 19th January, not for want of trying, simply nothing to apply for, well I rephrase that nothing I am suitable for. I've done the sending CV's, going into employers but getting no where fast, I've signed up with the 2 local agencies, I've signed up to Monster and its pals but again nothing. Any other ideas?

I could yes but don't particularly want to. Its a last resort, I'd rather work for someone. I am a carpenter by trade but something I don't really like

Have you tried sending speculative CV's? I.e finding companies you are interested in and sending a CV with a letter saying you're interested in the company and was wondering whether they might have anything suitable?

I've been sending a lot off and whilst the return on them isn't great, I almost always get a reply (without having to chase up). A lot have said they aren't currently looking but they'll keep me on record for when they are, and I did manage to get one interview (but they were recruiting not long after I'd sent my CV anyway).

    Might be worth a try

Yep I done that a couple of weeks ago with the exact same results you got, was actually surprised they replied but they all did.

if you don't want to stay in your trade, could you retrain perhaps as an instructor or trainer teaching to others. or if you don't fancy this what job would be your ideal job, sometimes if you visualise your ideal and then start making steps towards this it helps. Also if you are looking to retrain have you considered growth areas or areas where there are skills gaps such as the oil and gas offshore industries and the electrical engineering or rail maintenance industries.
