help and advice needed

Options
Hi everyone I have been a member on the forum for a while but have set up new username for this post, I hope I can get help on this situation. My parents have recently both lost their jobs and are now living from Pension credit as my mum is receiving state pension. The issue is that they both have credit cards and are unable to claim on ppi for these so have a lot of debts now which they can no longer afford to pay each month. We have done out the cccs plan which shows they would only be able to pay back £1 per month to each credit/store card. Since then my mum has contacted a debt management plan agency who are slow at coming back with information and dont seem to be doing much to help, they have only sent out the paperwork to sign after 4 weeks and numerous phone calls so nothing has been signed with them as yet, the reason for going down the DMP route was my parents dont feel like they could cope managing all the stress with the creditior and the harrasement. Can anyone please give any advise or recommend a DMP company who would deal with the creditiors for my parents as I am willing to help out with the fees if they can find someone who will really help.

Sorry its so long and any advise or suggestions will be appreciated

  • They should seek free advice from one of the debt charities as a DMP may not be the best choice for them. CAB, National debtline, CCCS will all be able to give advice for free on all options. Don't recommend any fee charging companies, they're only after the money.

  • Hi
Don't go with a paying company. CCCS are terrific and very supportive and no charge! They will advise your parents accordingly when they know their circumstances.
I wish them good luck in getting debt free

  • Thanks for the reply's, the only think was when my parents contacted cccs today they said they couldnt actually deal as third party where they would deal with the company which is what my parents would like to do, i do think they would be better dealing with this rather than dept management but they would like someone to deal so it takes the stress off them as they are finding it really hard to deal with and when these credit card companys phone requesting payments they end up giving the payment because they are forced into it and cannot afford to do so.

Last I knew CCCS don't assist with token payments, they provide 'self help' information and templates. Not sure if national debtline do but CAB do depending on how busy your local bureau is.

  • thanks i will look into national debtline. if anyone can recommend any other companys that run debt management and take care of the token payments etc would be great. Its so nice to have people giving advice as you can feel so alone and not sure how to advise my parents or what to suggest
