Well I still haven't made a decision and I really need to. :(

I wonder if I make things harder than they need to be? Lol.

With regard to the tumble drier point, my dryer is a 6kg one with a huge opening so it can take a lot. Most of my washing loads are made up of a range of things anyway.....some you can tumble, some you can't, so a full wash load probably wouldn't all get tumbled together.

I liked the Dyson idea because of the ability to wash duvets. My duvets need washed a fair bit bit and it's a pain having to take them to the laundrette.

I WILL decide this afternoon! :)

Can you still get a Maytag (sp?) in this country?

They were good big sturdy machines if you have room for a top loader.

Oops sorry I believe my link didn't work, however having spoken to Aliasojo on the phone apparently Maytag don't have such a good reputation nowadays.

I just Googled Maytag and got several websites should anyone be looking for American style appliances.

Well, if your dryer is 6kg and big enough for duvets, then anything over 6kg should do you for duvets, unless I'm missing something! I've had a sleeping bag in the Bosch, if that's any help.

Is hot and cold fill important to you? If it is, then my Bosch isn't for you, cold fill only. But the next one up might be dual fill.

Of course maybe you've decided by now - do tell!

And if you have, I hope you've found it in stock!

:o Have to admit, a decision is not yet forthcoming. :o

Getting embarrassed now about inability to decide....... and getting grief from other half who reckons 'any ****** machine will do, as they all wash don't they???!!!!' :D

Very kind friend has left me her key so I can visit her washing machine whilst she's at work so I will at least still have some clean clothes for a few more days, lol. So here's a public thank you to very kind friend.:T

With regard to the duvet thing, you can fit a single duvet into a 6kg tumble as it's had most of the water spun out of it. A single duvet in a washing machine will fit in with a seriously tight squeeze but it doesn't really wash well due to the fact it is packed so tightly. The duvet swells with the water and obviously becomes much heavier too, so you're not really supposed to wash them in a normal sized machine. (Maybe that's why mine broke? Lol. ;))

They Dyson model is supposed to be able to handle a King sized duvet, which is a plus point for me. I just really hate the look of it, and I don't know if they're reliable.

The hot/cold thing isn't an issue, I don't mind about that either way (unless of course someone points out a reason why one method of filling is better than another? On second thoughts, don't - I'm struggling to decide as it is.)

Since this is turning into a bit of a saga, I shall start supplying some virtual popcorn during the break. ;):D

  • When mine went a year or so ago the independant repair guy recommended a Creda, so I listened to him :j

Creda is owned by the same company as Hotpoint , so personally i'd avoid them

I have a Bosch , not had it long , but it's performing well so far , it's nice and quiet and has a choice of spin speeds from 900 to 1600

Well as a Dyson owner, it is only fair to point out that yes it has broken down on occasion, (note that with the kids etc it is in use on average 2/3 times a day). However, all of this was covered by the warranty. Their customer service I've found to be among the best I've ever encountered (yes, I know that flies in the face of popular opinion, but it has been my personal experience) and I've always had an competent, friendly engineer on site the next day who has fixed the problem quickly. Can't fault the service we've had from them.

Know what you mean about the look of the things though... they can rather dominate the room if you're not careful... some people seem to like that though! Anyway as you can gather, we're rather pleased with ours.

You could always look at the LG models... think those have 7kg washload. I think they also do some models with direct-drive which are meant to be super quiet as well. Not seen one, so no idea other than that, but think they are well reviewed.
Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.

Nobody has mentioned the Samsung Bigwash as alternative. Well I have one and my advice is don't go near it. The wash results are not that good and mine has just recently broken down (within 2 year warranty thank god). Having rung Samsung 2 weeks ago they are still awaiting to despatch the part to me (despite it being in stock!). I am getting fobbed off and passed pillar to post. In short customer service is c**p, they are all very nice (I am on first name terms with them all) but just c**p. Am getting fed up now (as we approach the third weekend without a washing machine), so will get my complaining head on.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to post. I really do appreciate all your input.

LG was actually on my shortlist along with Dyson, Bosch and Siemens. (Trust me, that IS a shortlist compared to what it was 2 days ago. ;))

The direct-drive is supposed to be quieter, but a WHich report I saw had LG down as one of the noisiest.

I saw the Samsung in store and spoke to 2 assistants about it, one said it was 'ok' and the other said she wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. Sorry you've had such a problem with yours cmorgan, I sympathise - washing problems are not fun!
