I have a default on my credit record with Lowell relating to Barclaycard. While checking my paperwork Barclaycard just before they sold the debt started using a new account number. So the Lowell default has an account number I never actually 'owned'. Does a default always have the correct account number?
As an aside Barclaycard reregistered a default for Egg that had just expired so Equifax kindly queried then removed this for me. Something to look out for!

the default is valid even if it does have the wrong reference number on it. even if not would be trivial to correct0
