Employed by a Temp agency...eye tests?

I'm employed by a Temp agency, I have been with them for a year in a few days. Am I entitled to free eye tests from them? I'm an administrator so spend my day on the computer.
Also, if I am entitled to the eye tests and I need glasses, do they pay towards them or is it then down to me?

I ask because I've been getting bad headaches since I've been in this placement (been there for just over 1 month) and think it may be to do with my eyes.

Thank you

  • Yes the agency should pay for a VDU sight test and for corrective glasses if used solely for VDU work but not, for example, if they are for reading as well, though some may make a contribution to the cost of prescribed glasses even if not just for VDU work.

Ask your normal contact at the agency as you need to find out how they operate on this - you can't just present them with a fait accompli.

The larger agencies probably have a preferred optician and provide vouchers rather than you being reimbursed the cost. As a minimum, if glasses are required just for VDU work then they would probably require you to have pretty much the cheapest (c £25) but may allow you to top up the difference for a more expensive pair.

Care to cite evidence for that? AFAIK there is no legal requirement for them to.
