Help from family

Hi - BR seems to be only option for me. Biggest concern going through my bank statements is the amount of money that my family & bf has given me to bail me out over last 2 years. No arrears on any of my bills but although I work, my family/bf has bailed me out & lent me money most months to keep me afloat as I had nothing to live on when I paid eveything off (silly me didn't pay off minimum payments but paid much more than I should have to try & clear debts early) and I have been at my overdraft limit continuously. Most months they lent me approx £300 from their savings/pension etc. to cover all my bills. This is making me sick with worry - will I be penalised for this even though all the money is going into my bank account and nothing has gone out except the dd's - so the OR can see i havent been syphoning money into a swiss bank account (i wish)? All debts are in my own name - this worry is putting me off going br. Wish Id gone br 2 years ago and I could have saved my family about £25k!!! -but now they're too broke to help me out as they're both elderly and waiting to go into a fold. But up until recently I didn't even know I could go br. My parents live with me in my house (mortgaged in my name but in negative equity - they pay utilities & I pay mortgage, council tax & insurances but they have been paying for groceries as I didn't have any money left over. I know that i will have to name them as my creditors - I will have to name about 4 family members as they have all bailed me out over last 2 years and although I feel dreadful they know they won't see a penny but they're more worried about me at the minute

As no-one is able to help me out now financially & although i'm making minimum payments on the debts I can, i'm now running into difficulties without the additional help- should i wait to go br until these payments don't show up on my bank statements or will it make any difference to OR?

Can you sell your house and downsize,

Post up an SOA, and we will try to help with your budget.

Are your parents paying their fair share

there is no problem at all with them helping you out, in fact the creditors have probably got alot more back than they would have done otherwse. Aslong as you have not sold an asset or something like that to pay your family members back in preference then you dont have a problem

  • Many thanks - reassuring replies - parents have more than paid their share - couldn't have survived without them. As I said before - I didn't even think I could go br as I didn't know anyone who had - its only finding this forum that I realised I could & spoke to someone in CCS who advised me that br was best option. Can't downsize house as in negative equity and need somewhere to live and mortgage is much less than rent for area. Nothing has gone out of my bank account that I can't account for - it has been all the money going in that has worried me and any grilling I might get because of it as my interview with the OR was the bit I was dreading the most.

Just a side issue, i would stop paying your creditors and get a new bank account not associated to any of them, you will find that not paying they will hassle you esp if you have telephone numbers they can contact you, that is when you need to change the number.
However not paying actually doesnt really hurt you much just gives you some thinking time, it can months and months if ever for some to take CCJ action against you.
