appologies if this is well covered elsewhere but can anyone advise?
I was made redundant after 35 years in november, eventually signed on for contribution based JSA at start of Feb, I have at last been offered a part time job 10 hours a week, when I inform jobcentreplus on monday morning will that just mean the end of my claim as i think they were about to offer some training or retraining?
also how will i be taxed on £75/80 earnings a week?

At 10 hours per week you will be able to continue claiming JSA but the amount you receive may be affected by your work income.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

I see thanks for that, so might still be able to have some training as well, but what happens about tax and ni when you earn a small amount part time? and does having a part time job like this affect things benefit wise say if you are out of work in two years time?0

Earning £75 a week you won't receive any JSA but can continue to sign for your NI credit, keeping your claim open like this will allow you to be eligible for all the things you are now. You just declare the work on a separate form each fortnight. Don't let them talk you into signing off, tell them its not guaranteed every week or something. If you do over 16 hours its a different matter and your claim will be closed.
You might find any training your offered a little lacking and not worth the effort!
You won't pay any NI on £75 per week, I think the threshold is around £90 but check HMRC website. There is a level £80 and £90 (guessing the actual amounts) where it is treated as if you pay NI but you don't actually pay anything so if that applies to you it might not be worth signing on unless the offer of training is worth it to you.
I don't think you'll pay any tax on this either as its below the personal allowance threshold."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
Many thanks for that , as I only left my full time job at the end of november with redundancy, does that mean I am over the tax threshold for this year and so will have to pay 20% on my £75/80 part time wage at least till the new financial year?
Sorry again if this appears a bit dumb but when you work in a job for so many years I never gave things like this a thought. (I know the redundancy money I was payed was tax free but I had earned 20000 by nov2011 will that mean I have tax to pay on my part time work from next week?0 -
Yes you will pay tax until April 6th when that should stop. You won't be paying National Insurance and need to check if you've got enough years paid for pension purposes otherwise you'll need to still sign on to get it credited. I don't know how old you are but when I was unemployed I'd already got 30 years worth of NI paid so didn't bother signing on the dole.0
