Cheap Brasso ?

Ran out of Brasso today, the wadding kind, which I prefer as much of the brass in my house comes from the Middle East and the liquid kind gets stuck in the detailing. Spending hours trying to remove white flakes with a pin is NOT fun.

I was wondering if anyone had spotted any cheaper brass cleaner please ? Do any supermarkets do an own brand version ?

Many thanks !

If it were plain brass I'd happily use the lemon juice or vinegar but with heavily engraved stuff it's really difficult to remove any residues. Some of the lines for example aren't as thick as a needle.

I just remembered this morning, T Cut make a fab metal polish but I'm not sure if it's any cheaper than Brasso, it's about £4 for a tube?

  • Try ketchup, use an old toothbrush to get into the engraved bits.

Sorry not using ketchup, some of the lines are as fine as this print, sorry if I didn't explain that before. If you put any kind of liquid on it, it gets caught in the grooves and you get a residue. So when you look at the whole piece it stands out either as dark or white against the brass depending on what was used.
