question regarding returning to work from a sick note

Why does the question not apply in the private sector? I am an employer in the private sector but I still need to know the answer to this! Even money aside - we need to know when staff are due back as we have to struggle to cover their abscence. I do think GPs are not always that clear what they intend - or maybe it's just that I should know but don't!MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0

Its not only whether you get paid or not - Someone I know was told to leave the office when their sick note wasn't clear on this matter, nominally due to insurance issues. (This was quite a few years ago now).
I had this recently and went back on the Monday even though the sick note was dated X-Monday. Luckily my boss was ok with it and there were no issues. I mainly went back because I was feeling better and not to do with the date on the sick note or pay though.0 -
I'm currently signed off by my GP as I have a nasty throat infection and can't speak. She says i probably won't be able to speak next week either... Part of my job involves talking on the phone for 3-4 hours a day.
However, as I work from home and won't be spreading germs, my boss has agreed that I don't have to take time off sick but can simply do different work for the next couple of weeks and when I'm fit to return to normal work, just submit sick leave for the time I did take off (a couple of days last week when I was too I'll).
So there is some flexibility if your employer is flexible and your role allows for it. The NHS website has a section explaining 'Fit notes' that I can't link to right now, but might be helpful. I used to to explain the concept to my American boss0 -

Your post doesn't explain why this question is not relevant in the private sector. Pay aside we still need to plan cover for somebody if they are to be off work so when they are coming back is VERY relevant.
My question had nothing whatsoever to do with pay but everything to do with running a good business and have the right level of staff to give good service to our customers without wasting money on cover if our member of staff was due back. Very important in the private sector I feel. (As an aside we do pay ten days in a rolling year full pay for sickness abscence.)
Luckily for me none of our team have your approach to things!MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0
