It's all about protecting the rich. The non-workers are more likely to riot and do a bit of breaking and entering if they can't afford their plasmas, sky, blackberries and Tesco lager.

Personally (and as a benefit claimant), I would have preferred for no increase this year, not because I can afford it (I can't) but because it just seems unfair to those who are working and may not be receiving any increase or indeed having to take a paycut in salary.

As we quite often say on these boards, we are in this together and together we should be making sacrifices to get this country out of the doo doo.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
  • While I can see where you are coming from Sue, I don't think making sacrifices like that would be good for anyone.. least of all for children or pensioners.

If food prices and fuel bills are spiralling up in line with inflation, yet subsistence level benefits aren't.. what all it basically comes down to is those people ( like yourself ) having to survive on less food, and less fuel. Simple as that as far as I can see and common sense.

I think that's the whole point of benefits going up in line with inflation. So that they can still afford the same levels of those 'basics'.. They aren't in essence seeing any 'extra' if things cost more ?

Those working and taking pay cuts and pay freezes probably, in general, have a little more leeway and margins on these things. And if they really are working and barely surviving on subsistence level wages.. really need to be seeing what benefits and help they also are entitled to.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Or, heaven forbid, get a job.
