Hi,
I am studying here in the UK. Last week my family sent me a digital camera through FexEd due to my old was broken down. Everything went fine until I got a duty tax charges from them. They said I have to pay the VAT tax as the goods come from outside UK. Can anyone please tell me if I have to pay the tax because it is the used camera and sent by my father? Is there anything happens if I don't pay it because it is sent to me via post and I live in a rented house?
I hope someone can help with this, any advice is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

It's complicated on how much needs to be paid but you have to the pay import duty for items coming from out side the EU which are over £18 in value (maybe more if it's offially marked as a gift)
Your family should of declared it's value under the freshhold and marked it as a gift. You could still be liable if customs ramdomly opened it and came to the conclusion that the value was more than declared.
FedEx have already paid it to the goverment you your behalf and are claiming what they've paid of you including their admin fee - if you don't pay it FexEx can take legal action against you0
