Jobcentre sharing private information with Work Programme companies

Hi all,

I've just completed one year of being on JSA. Consequently, today I've had an appointment with my personal advisor where she informed me that I would be placed on the Work Programme.

As part of putting me into the programme, she informed me that a file would be sent from my local JCP to the provider, containing my personal information, so that the provider could perform what they call a "match-up".

The information shared includes:

1) Name, which she gave to the provider, there and then
2) NINO, likewise
3) Address
4) Telephone number
5) D.O.B and
6) Action Plan

Action plan includes things like my previous work history and academic records, but also personal sensitive data, such as a driving disqualification that I had in the past and a subsequent endorsement on my license.

Needless to say, I feel queasy about the provider gaining access to such private information. Not to mention, this whole thing seems to me to be a breach of the Data Protection Act 1988.

Now, I'm not due for my first appointment with my provider for a month... is there any way I can stop JCP from giving out part of my file?

Thanks,
Desert Island.

I wouldn't be too bothered about the WP Provider knowing this. It's the type of stuff that would get asked at some point anyway... Do you have a driving licence, do you have any points, etc...

If the driving ban has been served then it is no longer relevant, unless you happen to take up a driving job and the prospective employer has an issue with it.

thats the form you sign when you are at the WP, not before. That is for the WP to share your info with others

Not too sure what happens to you if you are suggesting the OP sends a letter to the JC telling them they do not want them to share the info with the WP provider since you have to attend the WP

Surely OP shouldn’t have to opt out, but have to opt in?!

Had this row with Experian and ended up with £250 out of it!

The fact that I have 9 points on my license and my business/community history is nothing to do with anyone else, even though most of it is public information anyway!

I would have thought that points on your licence (for roles involving driving) and your business experience would be something "to do with" a prospective employer. Do you get jobs with no history, just a blank canvass?
