Can I dispose of?

I have two electronic items (each worth about £120 new) which were delivered in error and despite me ringing, writing and emailing the company they have failed to collect them.
First delivered in Nov 2011. They collected after I informed them only to redeliver them 3 days later.
They have made 2 further appointments to collect and I've given them my mobile number but courier failed to turn up both times.
A friend is doing some fund raising for a cancer charity and I want to donate them as prizes, but can I.
Rang consumer direct who were non committal so emailed them and they basically didn't know but said as they were small items then it's not unreasonable for me to keep them safe for a longer period of time than the month I gave them to collect in my last written communication.

I may be wrong though I thought by law companies had to reply within 3 weeks of someone writing to them.
I'll try and find out if this is correct.0
