Just a quickie.....
I've opened a big carton of ready made custard left over from Xmas and won't get through the whole thing by myself. My question is can you freeze it?
Thanks!

Yes and no. Yes you can - both types (egg or flour) are used as the base for ice-cream, but it's churned to prevent ice-crystals forming. No you can't, if you expect it to defrost you might well find a flour based one separates.
Do you have a food processor? Try freezing it flat in a ziplock bag. Then break it into pieces and process into ice-cream.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I believe you can, freeze and thaw/reuse.
When it's defrosted it will look gloopy (separated). Beat it with a fork (to smooth out all lumps) then once completely smooth, gently reheat. Should be ok.
If you reheat when there's only a couple of lumps, the lumps are more noticeable when hot.
Using a fork (or the back of a spoon) does squish outlumps. If you use a whisk, the lumps then get broken up into MORE smaller lumps - makes the work 3x as labour intensive.
HTH (no, it WILL help).

I have done it with reduced waitrose custard, even though it said don't freeze. It needed a little stir when it thawed but it was fine.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500
