Stuck for staff

Is anyone registered with stuck for staff?

I'm trying to get into promotional work and have been told that's a good place for jobs but they seem to want you to pay before you can access anything on their site. Is that right or is there a free membership option I'm missing?

I've registered with fieldstar and with promojobspro and neither of those charged me.

  • Anyone that wants money BEFORE finding you work should be avoided. Ive done agency work before (only for admin/hotel work) & they dont take money at all. They get their fees from the company you get placed with
trainee millionaire (aka not there yet!)
  • I agree. In the modelling industry there used to be lots of shady agencies charging wannabee models a fee to register on their database - but they tightetened the law a few years ago to stop that happening. However I've heard that a lot of promotional jobs get advertised on stuck for staff but want to know if this is true before I part with my money.

If anyone's a member could they let me know whether they think it's worth paying to join?

i nearly signed up today i would love everyones thoughts x
  • Yea I am with them and find it useful for getting work. I have had loads of promotional work/merchandising/sampling/fashion shows etc etc off the back of this website. In fact the agencies once they have you on board keep emailing you and calling you even after the membership lapsed. I still turn down work on a regular basis as its hard to fit running my own business with the promo work now but really enjoy it now and again.

However as it is a paid for service you need to ensure you are very flexible with regards times and days you are free, for instance if you are only free a few days a month it may not be worth your while :)

I hope this helps, if you need any more info give me a shout
  • Thanks murphy. I've been thinking about this and it doesn't sit right with me that you have to pay to even see the jobs. I used to do a lot of modelling and performing and it's the thing I hate about that industry too. Last night I was talking to friend of a friend who works in recruitment and he reckons that it's illegal to charge people to apply for jobs!

He's right, however it is not illegal to charge admin fees for extra services, which is how agencies which charge generally cover themselves. I've never looked at this website however generally speaking if you look hard enough you'll find a free option, it'll just stink.
  • Well, I have had work with 2 dodgy companies through them who never paid me so be careful. I've had a lot of decent work too though...I have been a promo model since 2006.

I've just checked and you can't join stuck for staff for free, the only way to apply for their jobs is to pay to join, either £30 for 12 months or £17.50 for 6 months.

However they don't tell you that until you've filled in the registration form and the first time I ticked that I hadn't got any experience and it told me I had to pay £5 for a guide to promotions and field marketing before I was allowed to join - 'blummin' cheek! It was only after I ticked that I'd got experience it would let me see the costs.
  • Just noticed that although I didn't pay to join stuck for staff when I went back to the site I was logged in. Although most of the menu options are greyed out I can access the job board so can see the list of jobs they have available - maybe this gets them round the law?

However if I click on any of them I can't see the full details just get a load of grey lines where the text should be, so it really isn't any help as I can't apply for anything or see anything other than the advert title.
  • The only reason I paid for the service was that I knew it was legit, my boss who I was doing Promotional Work sometimes hired staff through it and he recommended it. I have to say however that had he not been a user of it and told me it was safe I would have never paid to get on there.

I can understand you being cautious :)

With regard your above post, you will have to pay to see the greyed areas. Obviously I can not tell you to do that but as someone has mentioned there are probably other agencies you could sign up with who might not charge for signing up.
