Not sure why I include any useful details in the 1st post if it's not going to be read.

It is hardly surprising that people do not read so-called 'useful details' in the first post since I am sure I am not the only MSEer who does NOT need a list of abbreviations, does NOT need a link to yesterday's posts and does NOT need a list of newspaper prices! Because you have arbitrarily decided such items are necessary, this does not mean that everyone agrees with you!

Sorry, it seems lots of your 1st post has been ignored.

Though many of us just don't have as much time as you seem to think we have:
Remember if you go shopping look in as many newspapers as you can

I do find it embarassing to look through all these papers as I keep being directed to the library by the newsagent.
Post even if you don't see any coupons

OK - I can definitely comply here.

I haven't seen any coupons today.

Suggestion - if we are all to post to comply with you, maybe another abbreviation such as "NoCouponsSeen" could be used to save time scanning the posts?

If you feel really let down by visitors to your thread I don't blame you.

At the time of writing with my report you have had around 850 visitors and I am the only one reporting as required regarding not seeing any coupons - still, tomorrow is another day.

Well I was grateful for them when I first found this topic. When you are new to the collecting newspaper coupons thingy it is very useful. Lets not assume we all know what the abbrevs mean. Always cater for newbies and the forgetfull like myself I think. Keep up the good work!

No - I can only get out one side.
However my mother-in-law did die yesterday.

Feathers not ruffled (and didn't intend to ruffle yours) but I do "despair" sometimes regards some members and their posts where information is duplicated and repeated in a thread, especially when it's the very next posting.

Seems strange to me to be that interested in a thread such that a member feels the need to submit additional information to it, without actually reading previous posts to an adequate degree of accuracy so that the information would be beneficial to themselves.

Firstly this isn't MY thread. The fact that I started it today is irrelevant. It would have been created by one of about a dozen MSErs. 90% of the text is not my creation, it has evolved into this form over several months, and appears whoever starts the thread.

The abbreviations are included at the request of many members. This came about because of "mega-newspaper-information" poster CROCKER. Due to the amount and detail of some of the posts regarding coupons and vouchers etc., a shorthand code form came about to assist Crocker in saving time in quite a time consuming daily exercise. The codes are published so thread readers can decipher Crocker's posts. This short form of posting has been taken up by many other posters.

The link to yesterday's newspaper summary thread WAS my idea. Due to the inconsistent content and the occasional spelling mistake, AND the poor search retrieval success rate on these forums, finding older summaries could prove difficult. I made the suggestion on this thread a few weeks ago explaining why I thought its inclusion would be useful. I received loads of thanks which appeared to show a consensus of opinion of regular thread readers. It is usually included even when I don't start the daily thread.

The list of newspaper prices is my idea and was included for the very first time today. The reason behind it was having read a significant selection of past newspaper threads whilst looking for a specific post (that a search wouldn't find) a few days ago. I noticed that there were a significant number of posts ASKING how much a particular newspaper cost. This was usually after a posting where a money off coupon was detailed but the price of the paper failed to be mentioned. Listing them in the 1st post seemed to be a logical evolution of the information included.

As for my "useful details", I was specifically referring to that portion of the 1st post that is highlighted in RED
It contains the information about the coupons & vouchers or CDs & DVDs & books etc included in TODAY's newspapers.

The "arbitrary" inclusion of all of the above in the 1st post is not mine. However because of all of it, as a whole, over time, not only have I saved a vast amount of money, I have built a huge CD & DVD collection for free. Furthermore the chiller cabinet in my kitchen is filled with dozens and dozens of bottles and cans of cider, beer & lager, and a cupboard is filled with scores of bars of chocolate, none of which cost me a penny.

Dismiss the contents of the 1st post if you wish, however you may rue the day it tells you that your copy of the Sun/Mail/Times/Telegraph has a £20 note inside it if you look close enough!
