Can anyone recommend crossing the channel to shop and save in northern France ?

Hi,

Can anyone recommend crossing the channel to shop and save in northern France ?

I saw a programme on TV a few months ago where people apparently went to some massive shoppping warehouses and saved a lot of money on DIY stuff ?

I'm refurbing my flat so it might be worth a treck to but loadsa stuff like designer radiators, kitchen/bathroom stuff, etc.

Any tips greatly appreciated :D

Chris
you know when you're getting older - the wife says, "let's go upstairs and make love" and you reply, "I can't do both" !!

  • You need to weigh up the total cost of the trip.

How much will it cost in fuel, ferry/tunnel costs etc
Also how much will you be buying? I'm not entirely sure as I haven't been for a few years (despite living about 10 miles from the ferry!) but you used to have to buy a lot in order to 'recapture' the costs
  • Those Leroy Merlin stores are brill for DIY but whether they are cheaper than B&Q I don't really know but the choice and styles are amazing - well worth a look. There's probably a website for them.

  • Ive been to france a few times and always see Mr-Bricolage they look like b&q, have never been in though. http://www.mr-bricolage.fr/

I've looked around several DIY stores in France but I don't think prices are any different to England to be honest. If you keep your eyes open here you can often pick up some good bargains. If you've the time & fancy a little break (you can always stock up on wine etc.) then it might be worth a go.
    Good luck!

I think you'll find https://www.bricodepot.com will have a fair bit of stuff cheaper than the uk.There are many stores in the north of France.Including Calais & Boulogne
  • A bit obvious this but - you'd need to make sure that products were compatible i.e. plumbing/pipe diameters and electrical ratings etc. Not sure if all homes in UK are "european" yet??
A cheap toilet that has an incompatible soil pipe wouldnt turn out to be so cheap!!
